Core Reform Certification

CORE REFORM™ is the modern adaptation of traditional pilates and functional fitness specifically designed for teaching large group classes. It focuses on functionality, strengthening, lengthening and toning the body while applying the Smart Movement® concepts of stabilization.

The combinations are easy to follow yet challenging and effective. The choreographed routines are an energetic, safe and fun workout that can be combined with music to motivate and inspire. All the playlists from the Core Barre and Core Suspend System can be used for Core Reform group classes.

While the emphasis of the movements in Core Barre are of an isometric nature, Core Reform™ introduces the challenge of building strength in the eccentric / lengthening phase of the movements. The system adds resistance and plyometric training for more of an athletic workout that really takes traditional pilates to the next generation...but without losing the essence of mindful and Smart Movement®.

Learn to teach a fun flowing workout, connecting breath and movement, while working the body at all times in a tension free manner.

Be inspired to teach as clients develop muscle and motor control in pre-programmed exercises that challenge the body in multiplane movements with exercise variations that take the Reformer to a whole new level!

Incorporate the use of small props such a weighted balls and the theraband with the pilates Reformer. Learn variations and modifications that are suitable for all levels of fitness.

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS): The Mattes Method

"Active Isolated Stretching (AIS): The Mattes Method" developed by Aaron L. Mattes is one of the methods of stretching most used and respected by today's athletes and personal trainers. This workshop is geared toward the pilates/fitness/movement and/or massage professional. The AIS principles and techniques taught will enable the instructor or professional to self-stretch and effectively demonstrate and teach their clients how to 'self stretch' and proved assisted stretches to the deep fascia (tissues) promoting optimal range of motion by facilitating flexibility at the joint, mobility of the spine and kinesthetic awareness, thus promoting stability and effective movement strategies throughout a workout and in daily living.

Learn the concepts and purpose of stretching through the Active Isolated Principles specific to AIS. Learn the science behind effective stretching, the reasons for lack of flexibility and how to effectively teach a client to regain it. Learn specific exercises for all quadrants of the body and the correct stretching protocols to follow.

Professionals will develop the skills to safely and effectively self stretch, provide assisted stretches and educate and demonstrate to clients how to stretch. Developing a class, programming, cueing and modifying for a stretch class of different skill levels and ranges of flexibility to both individuals and groups will be addressed for the fitness professionals. The use of specific Pilates equipment to effectively assist is also introduced for Pilates instructors. Massage professionals may use a mat and or table. Stretch straps and ropes may also be incorporated. The course provides physiological principles of specific lengthening of the muscle and of the superficial and deep fascia.
