Core Barre Certification

CORE BARRE™ is a system of movement designed to create strength, flexibility, and a balanced body for the participant as well as the teacher.

It is based on elements of Pilates, Ballet and Athletic Conditioning and consists of high energy, low impact and fat burning exercises. Participating in CORE BARRE™ creates a new found awareness of the body, and an appreciation for smart movement.

Smart movement is simply moving the body with focus, precision, and strength not only in the physical realm but also in context of general well being. As we learn to engage in exercises that balance out the muscle groups in our bodies, we learn to balance our mind as well, which in turn facilitates clarity to make better choices in our daily living and hence promotes well being.

The CORE BARRE™ movements exercise our bodies in such a manner that does not cause injuries or further promote imbalances. Rather, it strengthens all muscles and re-programs the body to move in the way it was naturally designed to. CORE BARRE Participants quickly learn that engaging in a workout or class exercise does not have to mean “no pain — no gain.” In fact, the movements in CORE BARRE exercises are designed to be effortless, graceful, and energy generating, creating a meaningful and purposeful rhythm that is attuned to our bodies and its surroundings.

Therefore, the goal with CORE BARRE™ is to create awareness with mind and body for SMART MOVEMENT®.

CORE BARRE™ is the first series of classes that form the foundation for the system of SMART MOVEMENT®.

Core Barre™ 3-Day Foundation Course

This 3-day course is the foundation course for CORE BARRE™ instructor certification. The CORE BARRE™ System of Smart Movement® is a group based exercise program that combines elements of Pilates mat, classical ballet, resistance training and active isolated stretching (AIS).

3-Day (15 Hour) Course Description:
This 3-day course is designed to provide aspiring movement professionals with a more solid anatomy and biomechanical base with the CORE BARRE™ workout. This course is for individuals who would like to spend more time learning these concepts, ballet terminology and movement combined with the syllabus taught in the 6-hour CORE BARRE™ intensive course as well as supervised practice teaching. Little or no formal pilates training is required to attend this course although a relevant personal training or pilates certification should be pursued during this time.

Core Barre™ for the Aging Adult Workshop

Description:
"The Baby Boomer (45-63 years of age) and senior (64 and older) populations represent the fastest-growing sectors in America and are the economic groups with the most disposable income. What's more, Boomers recognize the importance of achieving and maintaining their health and are willing to spend money on experts in the fields of prehabilitation (designed to improve strength, stability and/or overall general conditioning prior to surgery) and corrective exercise in order to maintain their level of activity as they age. Therefore, the fitness industry must be prepared to address the specific needs of these populations." - Evan Osar

This 3 hour workshop will discuss the health benefits and research conducted on exercise for the older adult. Special considerations for programming for this population will be addressed. These topics include range of motion, balance, cognition, arthritis and other physical limitations, osteoporosis, posture, fun and laughter.

Exercises will be taught using a chair for both seated and standing work. The use of other small props including bands, small balls, small arms weights and exercises rings will be included. Core Barre™ 'On the Slanted Wedge'

COURSE SUMMARY:
CORE BARRE™ 'On The Slanted Wedge'™ is a group based program that is based on the applications and principles of the original CORE BARRE™ certification and is the newest workshop in the system of Smart Movement™. The workshop is available to certified CORE BARRE™ Instructors.

The 55 minute class follows the same format and syllabus as the CORE BARRE™ class. A standing warm-up is performed in the center bringing awareness to posture and form. The OPTP 'Slant'™, a small dense foam wedge, is introduced at the Barre series and is used throughout for all the Mat exercises performed in supine, prone, side lying and seated positions. At the Barre, the Slant promotes excellent work for ankle dorsiflexion and plantar flexion and adds support for the knees and brings awareness of bilateral and unilateral stability in all standing positions. For all the mat exercises, the slant adds challenge to abdominal exercises by changing its angles to increase intensity while providing spinal support.

Discover how the different angles of the slant can be used as a versatile tool to challenge a group class while keeping in line with CORE BARRE™ concepts and syllabus.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Learn how to introduce a small prop to an existing CORE BARRE™ class that is available to all fitness levels. Develop the skills to effectively demonstrate and teach the specific positions and angles used with the slant for all standing positions at the barre and for the mat.
Learn how to use the slant to add intensity and challenge to your group class while focusing on lumbo pelvic stability and alignment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By focusing on the knowledge gained through the traditional CORE BARRE™ course, bring an exciting level of challenge to your class by discovering the use of the small slanted wedge and how to safely use it in a group class. Gain a deeper understanding of what is working anatomically by changing the angles of the slant and learning how to safely progress through the syllabus.

Core Suspend™

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Core Suspend™ was developed by Options Studio in Asia, in order to combine the benefits of Neurac™ treatments with an invigorating workout that can be enjoyed by anyone. The Core Suspend™ System integrates functional physiotherapy into your workout to maximize use of important muscles without even realizing that you are using them. The workout can be done anywhere that you can place a suspension system.

Core Suspend™ for groups gives clients an awesome choreographed workout that leaves them feeling taller, looser and generally invigorated. Over time the workouts will tone you up, strengthen you and tighten up your waistline. You will notice postural benefits and any other sports that you participate in will benefit from the increased use of your intrinsic muscles.

Specialized workouts are available that work on the specific muscular needs of different sports. Core Suspend™ for private clients will give you the same great workout as group classes but with the addition of specialized weak-link testing to determine any structural imbalances that may be causing bad postural habits or chronic difficulty with certain daily activities and movements. The exercises and modifications used will be selected specifically according to your needs in order to improve any musculoskeletal problems that you have been experiencing. Private sessions will also include offloading in order to help you progress at your own pace.

Activation of postural muscles occurs because of the instability of the suspension equipment. This instability causes shaking or shivering of the intrinsic muscles around the joints being worked if you have reached the limit of your stable work with each exercise. The neuromuscular pathways that control and monitor the intrinsic postural muscles are activated much more than under normal circumstances when the muscles contract and relax very quickly during this shaking.

This activation automatically gives control of the muscles back to the brain and spinal cord so that you can start using these muscles properly in everyday life and in your sporting activities without even knowing how! Such instability is not found in most other workout methods including most suspension training methods and gym workouts, even when done on gym balls or balance boards because the instability has to cause very rapid shaking in order to work. Slower shaking of the muscles requires conscious control instead of subconscious control so it is far less effective.
